The hoon laws in Victoria just wanting to know what people think about them and what could be improved with them.
i agree with some of the laws but there are some other things that can be done to help cut down the hoons
for example first offiance car imponded for 48 hours and inside that 48 hours a traction controll and speed limater fitted to the car ( 100km/h set) and car is returned when fine is paid or 48 hours which ever come 2nd with the fine covering the cost of the above being fitted.

I agree it is a good idea to govern their cars but when I was a TEEN hoon I would always find a work around.
I would look at an American style crush their cars in front of them.
I like what a police department is doing in NZ they close a local airport and run drags, you can even race a cop car.
Taking cars and fining is one thing education is another. maybe make a bloody sick movie real life where someone dies from a high speed accident
who know lets start a vote Are Bendigo Hoons Fairly treated

i'll agree that i was a teen hoon as well but i got into speedway racing and it stoped me doing it on the street a lot easer with 20 other hoons running in the same direction and safer in a controled enviroment.

I live near the CBD and see and hear a lot of irresponsible hoon behaviour, especially at night. It might help if in future all P platers (red and green) could only drive 4 cylinder cars (max 2l) with only one other passenger allowed. By starting small they would hopefully have more emotional maturity and driving sense by the time they have a full licence. I think that if hoons are convicted, even on a first offence, their cars should be impounded immediately, then sold to defray costs, to make a contribution to increased police staffing and to deter themselves and others. These immature life wasters need to learn the hard way that what they are doing with their risky driving, often under the influence, and attention-seeking doof-doof noise at all hours is totally pathetic and abhorrent.

unfortunately that wont work.
what happens if a responsible adult with kids and a v6 gets a license?
i think that the police in general are to heavy handed. they abuse there power and its no wonder people are starting to abuse them back.
when i was youger i heard stories of local cops that would put the new guys to shame.
they used to be a positive prescence in the neighborhood and there were very few morons.
i think that no matter what is done u will always get idiots that break the rules and i agree their cars should be destroyed or sold to people in need.
rev limiters can be dangerous if someone needs to overtake and needs power quickly.

Should have said that that idea about P platers applies only to those under 21. Responsible older adults still need to learn to drive just as younger people do, especially if they're wanting to carry children, and it takes time, experience and preferably a car that won't accelerate too easily or be too precious to bump.
Re police: They get institutionalised like anyone else and can find it hard to be individuals with their original values. In time the idealism to serve the community can get rubbed away by all the conflict with the public and within the force. Those who want power over others just take it, because they can.

sad but true
is there a way back?
i think we need to set up a dialogue with the police and let them know that most of the community is good law abiding people that make the odd mistake like speeding.
i sometimes forget about the school zones and catch myself at the last moment.
but i am no hoon because of this. its just an honest mistake.
we are over governed and are loosing the ability to make honest mistakes and free choices.
maybe we have just become too selfish as a society.

I think so called hoons are just bored younger people. They get out there and 'cut laps' etc because they can't think of anything else to do - its not as tho society expects them to sit at home watching SBS documentaries....I think the New Zealand airport tarmac idea is a really good one, even if somewhat wasteful of petrol!
